The Humble often stand head and shoulders above others because by their very nature they are people who are afraid of heights. Looking only towards the heavens, they attain them, never having glanced down to see how high they have risen from the dark pit of pride.

I like to think of pride as if it were a bag, the prouder the man the smaller his bag. Proud men with their small bags are filled easily, once filled so they must announce that to the world and engage in pride, the humble however are different. The mysterious guiding force of the universe that fills these bags of proud and humble alike with things worth being proud about, the humble though walk life this life with bigger bags whom this force not only fills with things but is compelled to in attempt to fill that emptiness. Perhaps that is why the humble more often that not get so much more, yet never boast about it for they know there is still yet more to receive.

I reject the right wing’s idea of patriotism, the flag waving ,military marching kind we see Americans often engage in, the love for symbols. Someone who speaks a different tongue, prays to a different being or calls another nation home these things do not matter. A greater indictment to our society is if someone on our soil is through no fault of their own is made experience poverty and injustice, they are a reflection of our failings, our need to do better by our fellow people. If a person truly loves their nation, that begins and ends with the humanity that inhabits it, to support programs that seek to reduce the divisions between people be they social, legal and economic, so that we not only see each other as different but live as such.

Where the scholar looked ages in religious tomes for it, Where the pilgrim walked many miles  and my holy sites in search of it, it was he who was simple who had found it. He had found his God, the thing he ought to worship, not in books or places no, for he always had it, he merely listened to his conscience that was all.
