I don’t know why some still regard the idea of a decent living wage as radical and revolutionary. It doesn’t take a socialist or communist to realize that if an employer is taking a huge chunk out of someone’s day, the least they should compensate them in a such way that makes the rest of it at least tolerable.
They call our generations the millennials, being the first generation to not grow up under the shadow of the cold war, we were promised a better world than our parents. The better world never came about, instead of we live in under the darkness of Global Terrorism. We are the generation that paid a lot more for the opportunity to study hard for jobs that no longer offer a chance for a secure future. Live and labour in the hopes of own houses that are made increasingly unaffordable and unattainable. Paying rent to pay off other generations mortgages, instead of paying our own. Forced to run in a race to the bottom, yet contend with be told we have it “easy”. We were the generation that was supposed to have made this world a better place, yet we are the generation that struggles better ourselves. We are the generation that promised so much yet received little, we are the generation of broken promises.
